https://cahiers-ramau.edinum.org/422 Partant de l’hypothèse que l’on peut approcher la notion de « qualité architecturale », par la connaissance des systèmes cognitifs qui participent d’un savoir sur l’architecture, cette contribution propose d’emprunter un point de vue philosophique ou « architecturologique ». Par l’étude de cas empiriques, l’auteur s’interroge sur les qualités que l’on peut ou que l’on doit attribuer à l’espace architectural. Les commentaires recueillis à propos de l’Institut du Monde Arabe, à Paris, ou du nouveau Palais de Justice de Caen peuvent alors être analysés comme l’expression d’une activité cognitive consistant à re-concevoir l’espace architectural par la perception. Pertinences, réminiscences, lisibilité, représentations sociales et références socio-culturelles enracinent la notion de qualité dans la dimension individuelle du sujet observateur et invalident la notion d’Une Réelle Qualité, transcription des intentions de l’architecte et proclamée par ses pairs. Using the hypothesis that the concept of “architectural quality” can be approached through a knowledge of the cognitive systems that contribute to an understanding of architecture, this article proposes adopting a philosophical or “architecturological” point of view. Through the study of empirical cases, the author questions the qualities that could or should be attributed to the architectural space. The comments collected concerning the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris or the new law courts in Caen can thus be analysed as the expression of a cognitive activity that consists in re-designing the architectural space through perception. Relevance, reminiscence, readability, social representations and socio-cultural references combine to allow the concept of quality to be appreciated from the point of view of the observer, thus invalidating the concept of truly Real Quality, as a transcription of the architect’s intentions and proclaimed as such by his/her peers.
